Merry Christmas 2011 from SidebySide Cinema

Hey everyone! We hope you are enjoying the holidays this year, whichever ones you celebrate. We’re enjoying the Christmas season so far and have made our annual Christmas card video a little early this year. We usually post it on Christmas day but here it is today instead! (and if you are new to this, check out our last three years of video cards, 2010, 2009 & 2008 - a little peak into our silly minds…we’re dorks)

enjoy, and make sure to eat lots of goodies, spend time with the ones you love and be thankful this holiday season!

Contest Winners – San Diego Cinema

We’re so excited that you all voted for our recent short film for the Stillmotion contest! We won the Chicago Event Cinema Workshop with Patrick from Stillmotion, Kevin from Pacific Pictures, and Joe from Joe Simon Wedding Films. It was a whirlwind this past week, finding out we won, buying plane tickets and spending two packed amazing days full of great info, community and practice. We are so thankful for being able to have this opportunity and can’t wait to improve our cinema with what we’ve learned.

Here’s our winning video – an answer to the question, what inspires your cinema? And you can find links to our videos from past contests here (‘gateway‘, ‘isolation‘ and our first and favorite, ‘found‘)

enjoy!

Here’s a pic of us with our teachers Joe, Kevin and Patrick. We’ll be posting another blog soon about our workshop soon:)

2010 Christmas Card Video!

Hey everyone, we hope you are having a great time this holiday season! Every year we do a video Christmas card (our little video nerd tradition) and so if you are new here, you can click the links for our past cards (2007, 2008, 2009).

So enjoy number four of our video Christmas card tradition:)

Here’s a picture too…and no, it has nothing to do with the video…maybe next year!

Stillmotion short – ‘gateway’

So this is our third short film that we’ve put together for Stillmotion’s contest! The theme was ‘gateway’ and we had a hard time with this theme. For some reason, the first one we ever did was the one that was the easiest to come up with a story. This one was a little tricky. We thought of all the things we could think of that mean ‘gateway’ and this is what we came up with, story and all in a minute long video… If we win first prize we actually get to go meet the team and go to a workshop which would be so incredible for us! We are always looking to improve our work and what better way to learn than from the cinematographers we look up to most:)

Isolation – Stillmotion Shorts

Hey everyone,

Some of you may have seen the last video we entered into the Stillmotion Shorts contest. We had so much fun with that one we decided to do another! The theme is isolation and it’s only a minute. Check out the contest here and vote for us if you like it.  And check out Stillmotion in general, they are really awesome:) Also, a big “thank you” to Seth and Dez of Zelo Photography for helping us out (by being extras, carrying our gear, driving, and buying water balloons–don’t ask).

…found

As much as we love to shoot weddings, it’s always fun to do something different. StillMotion, a company up in Canada started doing some fun contests for video shorts. They actually started it with their employees as a way to encourage creativity but they’ve since opened it to the public on their education section of their blog! The rules are that it can only be a minute and it has to take you less than 3 hours to make. And of course you have to follow the theme which for the first one was “found”. So here’s our interpretation of that theme…and soon you’ll see the next one! Here’s the link to the rest of the videos that competed…we didn’t win but we’re just happy we made the cut!

enjoy!
