Why should I get a wedding film? Wouldn’t it be better and cheaper to have a family member do it?

First, your wedding day is going to go by very fast. We just got married and were surprised at how much of a blur our day was to us. There are fun moments that the bride and groom simply are going to miss–that’s why it’s nice to have those recorded for future viewing. And why have it professionally filmed? The raw footage, the angles, the sound, and the ability to capture it all and edit it is a lot to ask a novice to do. Plus, you would like your family and friends to enjoy your wedding day and not be burdened with having to lug around a camera and film it all for you. Video is here for you to relive the excitement…because life moves.

How long have you been filming and editing?

We have been filming and editing separately and together for over 10 years.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we have insurance and can show proof if your venue needs it.

What awards have you won?

We have won awards from 10News A-list (#1 San Diego Wedding Videographer), Weddingwire, and a first, second, and third place from the San Diego County Fair. Click on the awards tab for more info.

How would you describe your filming and editing technique?

First of all, don’t take our word for it! Come meet with us and we’ll show you full DVDs of weddings we’ve done. We film and edit in a timeless fashion. We want you to be happy with our film years down the road. Our emphasis is on classic, elegant pans and edits during the ceremony and quicker edits to music you choose for the reception and pre-wedding. We also try to tell the story of your day with our editing. We won’t, however, be limited to our style (that’s just how we like to do it). If you have any preferences, please talk to us, we want you to enjoy your wedding video. We take a highly cinematic and yet journalistic approach to filming weddings. This means we capture the day as it unfolds and we don’t “pose” shots of people. We want people to be able to watch it and feel as if they had been there.

When is the payment due and what do I need to hold my date?

One third of the payment and a signed contract is what you need to hold the date. The remaining balance is due one week prior to the event.

Do you accept credit card payments?

Yes, we do.  We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards.

Do you shoot and deliver in HD?

Yes, we do! See our price sheet for more info.  Everything we shoot is captured in 1080p HD.  We deliver wedding films on standard definition DVDs and 1080 HD Blu-ray discs.

How many cameras do you use at the ceremony and reception?

We shoot the ceremony with 3 HD cameras and the reception with 2 HD cameras.

What type of equipment do you use?

We use the following:

Canon HD (hi-definition) DSLRs with a wide variety of lenses
Professional Sennheiser wireless microphones
Digital audio recorders
Camera lights and and Lowel Pro lights and stands for low light situations
Manfrotto tripods, monopods, sliders, and Glidecam HD-2000
Adobe Premiere, Encore, Soundbooth, Photoshop

How do you capture the audio?
We have several wireless mics and digital audio recorders.
At the ceremony:  we mic up the groom and the officiant.  We also will get (if possible) direct feed audio at the ceremony location of all the music, readers, singers, etc.
At the reception:  we get a direct feed (if possible–and it usually is not a problem) from the DJs sound board for the sound (dances music, special live music, toasts, prayers, etc.) and we also have mics on camera for ambient sound.

How do you capture our vows?

We put a microphone on the groom that is high quality and is able to pick up both of your vows. We also mic up the officiant so that we don’t miss anything.

How many discs do I get?

Every package comes with 3 DVDs. If you get our Feature Film or Your Story package we also include 1 Blu-ray disc.

What is the play length of the finished film?

That depends on how long your ceremony and reception is and if you have us capture the pre-wedding. An average length for a wedding film is about an hour and a half. This will change depending on the package you hire us for. All packages include a full documentary edit of the ceremony and reception events and a 3-5 minute cinematic recap. You will also receive a longer cinematic edit, called the feature film, which contains your whole day told in an epic, cinematic fashion.

How long will it take to finish editing our wedding film?

It depends on the package purchased and the amount of footage. Only part of our job is the actual filming of your day. We might spend 8 hours at your wedding but are spending much more than that editing it into something you will love. Our goal is to have a finished DVD for you in about 6-14 weeks and we can have a more specific estimate when we get closer to the date.

Who are the cinematographers and editors of the films?

We (Jared + Danielle) do all of the shooting and editing ourselves.  Unlike some film companies we do not hire out associates to shoot the wedding day.  When you hire SidebySide Cinema you are hiring Jared + Danielle for both the filming and editing.   This allows us to be able to add the personal touch to your finished wedding film.

Where can I see samples of your work?

Go to our ‘blog’ tab for the very latest videos we have worked on.  We have also put some of our recent work in our Portfolio section.  You can also search around to find something specific. If you want to see full-quality versions of our work, call us to set up an appointment or we can send you an example.
